Arts Mark Award

We are delighted to announce that our school has achieved an Artsmark Silver Award!

Artsmark is the creative quality standard for schools, accredited by Arts Council England. It supports them to develop and celebrate arts and cultural education across the whole curriculum, bringing learning to life for children and young people.

To gain the Artsmark Award, our school has worked to develop the arts and culture provision and embed a broad and balanced curriculum. This was achieved by creating an overall plan that was committed to and delivered across the whole school.

The Artsmark assessor commended the school for developing the profile of the Arts across the curriculum, saying:

'Hampton Hargate Primary School has used this Artsmark journey to develop the role of your pupil Arts Council who deliver arts competitions, help decide what art projects you will do and help deliver them as well as providing feedback on curriculum ideas. Arts and culture are valued and promoted in the school, for example your new mural at your entrance. You have developed your Art and Design and Music curriculum skills documents and changed your art and music curriculum to ensure it is progressive and key skills are covered. You run arts weeks and work with your music hub. You have considered how your art curriculum is representative of wider society and ensure you study a wide range of artists. You are aware of the cultural diversity of your pupils and have considered ways to promote and share this, for example via your ‘This is Us’ project and your ‘book gift’ scheme. Senior leaders and Arts Leads actively monitor the Artsmark process including book scrutiny and regular feedback. You have delivered in-house CPD for teachers on using sketchbooks and have plans for a staff meeting on art assessment in the summer. As a result of all this activity children are more confident in their arts and music lessons and there is a range of arts activities that give children opportunities to explore their creativity through the arts’.

Congratulations on your Artsmark Silver Award!

We work to continually develop ways to further enhance our Arts provision and will use feedback from the Arts Council England to support us with the ongoing process.

Well done and thank you to everyone involved in this achievement.
